Incidence of cancer will continue to rise due to the aging population and a number of other factors, such as adoption of Western diets and smoking trends. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that global incidence of cancer will increase 50% from 10 million cases in 2000 to 15 million in 2020

Arana has a number of anti-cancer antibodies in its pipeline that warrant further development, based on the results from discovery stage and pre-clinical studies. In 2006, the cancer market for monoclonal antibody therapies totaled US$7.8 billion. Through the expansion of approved indications and the emergence of additional antibodies, sales are estimated to more than double by 2016.
