Bone cancer and associated
bone loss

Background
Seventy percent of patients with advanced breast and prostate cancer develop secondary cancers in the bone, amounting to about 300,000 new cases annually in the US alone. The annual cost of adjunct treatment to counter the effects of bone erosion, fragility and pain is estimated to be US$1 billion.

In humans, a protein called osteoprotegerin (OPG) protects against the loss of bone mass associated with osteoporosis and bone cancer. However, in addition to having a beneficial effect, there is evidence that OPG may have the disadvantage of interfering with a surveillance system in the body that kills cancer cells.

ART010 - for bone density regulation
A novel product to treat bone cancer, ART010 is a modified version of OPG, a naturally occurring protein in the body that regulates bone density.

ART010 is an engineered version of OPG, produced by the application of Arana’s technology platform EvoGene™, that has been shown in pre-clinical studies not only to protect against bone loss as effectively as OPG, but also to reduce the ability of a tumour to grow in bone.

Bone Cancer and Associated Bone Loss

The World Health Organization estimates that global incidence of cancer will rise 50% from 10 million cases in 2000 to 15 million cases in 2020.
